Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale will be assessing his squad before the Premiership season resumes next Thursday to see exactly where he needs to strengthen in the January window.
One obvious area for concern is the midfield, with the Ibrox side lacking any sort of bite in the centre of the park this season, Beale may have to add a couple of signings in order to improve this during the second half of the season.
The 42-year-old could seal his dream first signing by making a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Billy Gilmour.
The 21-year-old – dubbed “world-class” by Roy Keane in 2020 – was linked with a move to the Light Blues in the summer, however, he joined Brighton for £9m instead, but he has struggled for game time this season.
Former Scotland striker Andy Walker discussed Gilmour’s future on the Go Football Radio Show, saying: “He has been out of the side. I certainly think he needs to play.
“Whether he wants to come back; I think it’s really difficult to leave the richest, most competitive leave in Europe when you know you can perform there.
“I think his heart is probably in Scotland with Rangers at Ibrox, but I’m not sure he would want to leave the Premier League in England.”
The youngster started off his career at the Ibrox side, progressing through the youth ranks before joining Chelsea in 2017 at just 15 years of age and he eventually went on to win the Champions League with the London side.
This season, the Scot has played just five matches across all competitions and it certainly looks like a loan move away from the Premier League in January is on the cards.
Gilmour would be a dream addition to Beale’s Rangers squad, and with his experience at the highest level, he could slot into the midfield alongside John Lundstram with ease.
Over to you Ross Wilson, time to make a move happen.
